Over the years, Wauconda has progressed from a small farming community to a quaint resort town with limited industry. Today the village’s natural setting is attracting more year-round residents for its scenic beauty, rural charm and strong family-oriented community.
Transportation
Major arteries include Rand Road (U.S. 12) and Illinois 59. Commuters board trains at the Barrington station, 25 minutes south of Wauconda. Total commute time to the Chicago Loop is 90 minutes.
Schools
Wauconda Community Unit District 118 serves area residents. A Catholic grade school is also located in town.
Shopping
Wauconda is home to Liberty Square, an outdoor shopping center with 28 stores. Additional specialty shops and antique stores can be found throughout the village.
Recreation
Over 20 acres of land are found throughout the village incorporating five parks. Bangs Lake, in the center of town, is a 300-acre lake with five miles of shoreline for fishing and water sports. Other cultural facilities include Elm Theater, Lake County Museum, and the Tamarack Nature Preserve.
