There are a lot of career choices for you if you are a nasty, bitter, smarmy - simply despicable - human being who doesn’t like other people. You could be a truck driver, a lab technician, a data entry clerk, or an elevator mechanic. You could be a tile installer, a movie critic, or a composer. You could even be an accountant.
But the one thing you should NOT be is a doorman. Unfortunately, a few of the city’s doormen - and the management companies which hire them - do not seem to understand this.
Doormen should be super pleasant, courteous, and willing to go the extra mile to welcome you and your guests home, wave goodbye, take packages, convey messages, help you with your groceries, and….OPEN THE DAMN DOOR FOR YOU.
Most doorpeople fit this mold. But the exceptions stand out and cast a negative impression on a building when buyers walk through the door and into the lobby looking for their next home.
So, if you’re a doorman - or a doorwoman - please do all you can to make me and my clients happy. Because everyone’s happy when Brad and his clients are happy.

Chicago's sole (can you believe it?!) chalk festival returns to Rogers Park for the first time since 2019 this August, transforming Howard Street into a lovely, chalk art-covered canvas over the course of a single day. Head east of the Howard Red Line stop between Paulina and Ashland to tour 3-D chalk designs by artists like Amanda-lee Harris, Zach Herndon and Jessi Queen and try food from local vendors, or get in on the action yourself by purchasing a 4x4 square of sidewalk to design for $25—don't worry, chalk is included.

Time Out says that diehard fans of indie, soul, bluegrass and jam bands are descending upon SeatGeek Stadium in Bridgeview this weekend for the inaugural Sacred Rose festival, a three-day, hippie-inspired music fest that's being billed as a "choose your own musical adventure" extravaganza. The festival's three stages will host a different genre-specific lineup over the course of each day, featuring acts like Phil Lesh & Friends, Khruangbin, The War on Drugs, Umphrey's McGee and more. In addition to live music over the course of the weekend, Sacred Rose will also feature large-scale art installations, seven padded astroturf fields and an air-conditioned dome for comfortable viewing.
