| Early in the summer my colleague Anne and I met with a couple who had lived in their home in West Lakeview for over 20 years and wanted us to sell it for them so they could downsize. After touring the house, we sat down and reviewed the strategy and process. I stressed my team’s number one goal when we sell a home: to get as much money as the market will bear for our clients. Pretty simple, eh? Well, realizing that goal requires a lot. A lot of market knowledge, a lot of insight, a lot of connections, a lot of preparation, a lot of experience, and a lot of street savvy. In short, a lot. With our proven track record, these sellers believed we could get the job done for them and immediately enlisted us. Smart folks. With our market knowledge, insight, connections, preparation, experience and street savvy, we ultimately got them an amazing price, successfully nurturing a bidding war until it garnered 20% over list price - well over the comparable sales in the neighborhood. But this is what made this transaction stand out: one of the sellers was an agent himself, and he could have easily saved the commission by listing it himself. Understanding his limitations and our prowess, these sellers ultimately came out ahead. Way ahead. Smart folks, indeed.
