While recently visiting some friends in Rockport, Maine - where the shoreline is highly protected and the ocean views highly coveted, I learned of a sordid tale which has been percolating around town since 2017. Apparently, a transplanted Brooklyn couple, salivating for the water view which was blocked by their neighbor’s trees below, secretly poisoned those trees to clear the way for their view.
Things happen. Especially in real estate.
As someone who grew up with a deep appreciation for water views, I get the intense attraction: the moonshine, the colors, the feelings it evokes, the serenity, the moods, the glorious sunsets - all of which create a certain spirituality, shall we say. (We shall).
But after years of hearing clients say that they “would kill for that view,” I finally, FINALLY hear about someone who actually has.
I’ve been waiting for this very moment for decades.

If they wanted the guarantee of a water view, this is what our darling couple Stephen and Kathleen should have done: pay the premium for it. Like their neighbor and everyone else with water views in Rockport.
