I’m not sure who decided that the Fourth of July should take place on the Fourth of July, but it was really a great idea.
It’s easy to remember, easy to plan for, and hard to miss. And the Fourth of July is definitely best held in the summer when we can barbeque on the deck, watch fireworks outside, cheer on off-key marching bands in cheesy parades, and drink beer from a keg in the sweltering heat.
Imagine the Fourth of July in the middle of January - it would truly be a miserable experience, with folks celebrating in their own homes, shivering in their long underwear and eating chili. Or having the Fourth of July any time between Halloween and Christmas would forever mess with house decorations, Thanksgiving timing, and holiday shopping sales.
It’s crystal clear to me that it’s best having the Fourth of July on that day is the way to go.
So, I wish you a happy independence day.
I hope that we can all agree that democracy, separation of powers, justice, maintaining the world order, and the preservation of the rule of law are good things. That would be something for me to celebrate tomorrow. On the Fourth of July.
Have a great weekend!
Best,
Brad
