We’ve all seen movies, read books, and heard stories where crazy things happen next door. And when I’m out and about selling houses, I regularly encounter these kinds of situations: weekly parties with loudmouthed teenage kids, developers who build eyesores which make you cringe and block your light, and rodents celebrating their unchecked free reign, to name a few.
Unfortunately - except for some vague legal protections which require protracted enforcement, there’s really nothing you can do. You have to cower in your own home, fuming at your misfortune. You close the drapes, put in earplugs - and perhaps even call me to discuss selling your house to escape the misery.
But if you want to absolutely guarantee your peace and have complete control over the adjoining property, there is one option: you buy it. And that’s exactly what a client of mine is doing. Concerned that the neighbor’s house will be knocked down and replaced with a much larger and imposing structure which would adversely affect his enjoyment of his own house - and its value, he is taking control and buying it.
Yes, it may seem drastic and costly. But peace of mind is worth it. Especially if you’re one of my beloved clients.

When it comes to street festivals, the annual Wicker Park Fest is usually one of the season's largest (and most crowded) events, attracting thousands of people to a stretch of Milwaukee Avenue that's crowded with bars, chain restaurants, boutiques and shoe stores.
