After 28 years of navigating Chicago with buyers in my car, I have become a master of the City’s streets, alleys, and shortcuts (think Waze x50) - zipping (and speeding) from showing to showing. It seems we’re always on a tight schedule to pack it all in.
But after a few schlepps with me, my buyers recognize my greatest talent: parking. I have identified the City’s best loading zones and illegal parking spots. With my favorites ranked (30 minutes vs. 15 minutes vs. tow zone), I know exactly what likely awaits me when we arrive at any building or house - with a few back-up spots in my pocket if the first choice is taken. My car's flashers are widely known and admired.
Most of my buyers understand that when you’re in my car, these parking secrets are mine - and they stay in the vault.
So you can imagine my shock when I approached one of my beloved loading zones (a beautiful 30-minute sucker that flies under the radar) close to Water Tower for a showing ... and ONE OF MY CLIENTS had already parked in it. At first I wasn’t sure (black BMW’s are ubiquitous), but his (NOT CLEVER!) vanity plate couldn’t mask the truth. I even saw him return to his car with a latte, unfazed by his transgression.
Listen folks, I take the broker/client relationship seriously - one built on trust, communication, and respect. But for the record (as if I should have to say this in this precious space): you need to stay far away from my loading zones and illegal parking spots and let me do my job. Capeesh?

"The Great Chicago Fire: Disaster and Recovery" Tour
|
To commemorate the 150th anniversary of the Great Chicago Fire, the Chicago Architecture Foundation, in collaboration with the Chicago History Museum, has come up with a hot tour that can't be missed. The tour will tell stories of Chicago’s great disaster (the fire, not this year's Cubs squad), bust a few myths, explain the re-building of the city and tell you what actually happened. Follow the route of the fire while riding in a coach bus and discover who was blamed for the fire - and who profited from the blaze that put Chicago on the world's map.
Learn how the site of the fire’s starting point on DeKoven Street became the Chicago Fire Department training facility and trace the fire’s route to its northern boundaries in Lincoln Park. Along the way, learn about “fireproof” buildings that burned, the few structures that survived, and the everyday residents who rebuilt the city.
