With Americans bitterly divided and emotions running high, I think we can all come together and agree on one thing: that we’re tired of pretending that quinoa is good.
Sure, it may have some health benefits (according to Wikipedia, “the seeds are rich in protein, dietary fiber, B vitamins and dietary minerals in amounts greater than in many grains”); it’s fun on a menu because it sounds quirky when we say the word “quinoa”; and we all feel like we’re cool when we eat it.
But, in the end, quinoa just lacks taste, and its texture is just plain foul. So why do we continue to eat it?
The same reason we installed ubatuba granite countertops for so many years even though they’re really not that attractive. Because they were so trendy and we liked saying “ubatuba” so much. Aw heck, I still like saying it outloud. Give it a try!
So, my friends, with the new year approaching, let’s all commit to designing our home to our own tastes, go beyond 50 shades of gray, and buck the trends (unless, of course, you’re planning on selling in the near future in which case you should definitely call me).
And have the courage and fortitude to say “no” to quinoa. Together, we can do this!
Have a great weekend!

PAWS Chicago Holiday Adopt-a-Thon
|
PAWS, the city’s largest no-kill animal shelter organization in Chicago, hosts its annual holiday adopt-a-thon from December 13-21. The week-long event aims to match 200 dogs, cats, puppies and kittens with loving homes, just in time for the holidays. The PAWS Chicago Pippen Fasseas Adoption Center will have extended hours; appointments are recommended for those looking to adopt, but walk-in guests are welcome. Interested adopters are asked to bring all family members to meet the pets. Adoptable pets and appointments can be viewed here.
