So, in addition to getting contracts signed up left and right, the highlight of my week was accompanying my buyers on a showing of a luxury downtown condo, one of the most fabulous spaces I have ever shown in the city. My buyers, both successful and high profile folks around town, were excited to see the place.
Even though the listing agent warned us that the condo was occupied by renters, we certainly were not prepared for what we saw when we walked in: a large collection of bongs on the coffee table with matches and ashes strewn about. With absolutely no judgment on the legalization of cannabis in Illinois, or the selection of bongs used by the renter, or the grade of the pot they smoked, I have to say - call me crazy - it’s just not the very best way to show a high-end luxury condo in downtown Chicago.
Renters may be very nice people in real life, but they don’t care as much for your place as you do. How could they? Sadly, I've heard way too many stories of renters trashing places.
Before you decide to rent out you place instead of selling it, consider how renting may depreciate your asset - and how the transaction costs in “refreshing” the place once the renters move out may outweigh any benefits to renting it out in the first place.
And be assured: there's no way in hell I’d show your place with bongs on a coffee table.

Check out the Christina Quarles Exhibit at the MCA
|
As reported in Time Out Chicago, Los Angeles–based artist Christina Quarles paints bodies, but not in the way you'd expect. Instead of straightforward studies of the human form, her canvases demonstrate a disregard for gravity and anatomy that finds torsos, limbs and faces arranged in surreal ways. This Museum of Contemporary Art show is her largest exhibition yet, focusing on her output over the past three years, including a large-scale installation that incorporates illusions.

During the summer, one of the best aerial displays you'll find in Chicago originates from Navy Pier. To celebrate the reopening of the lakefront attraction, Navy Pier will host a 10-minute fireworks show every Saturday night during May—and there's a chance the the usual slate of bi-weekly shows could return this summer.
The fireworks will begin at 9pm each Saturday and you're welcome to enjoy them from Navy Pier's various public spaces. Of course, you can also take in the show from nearby beaches or while cruising along the Lakefront Trail.
