Here is a small sample of what I've recently overheard at the gym from folks wearing Airpods, having (obnoxiously) loud conversations: one guy is deciding whether to divorce his wife and unsure of how to hide his assets from her. Another guy has had enough with Le Colonial because they kept one of his unopened bottles of wine that he brought in for corkage. A woman is finally switching to Vuori from Lululemon. Another woman is struggling with the effects of menopause and also hates the majority of her employees. One guy is really pissed at the Milwaukee Brewers. Another member has to pick up her dry cleaning before a dinner event - apparently at the Rosemont Hyatt - and traffic will be miserable. One (single?) guy was trying to arrange a hot tryst (but not at the Rosemont Hyatt).
I’m always amazed at how so many people are oblivious to those around them, what they’re saying, and who can hear it.
We're all tempted to speak indiscriminately. But in real estate it's important to be extra cautious about what you say, what you don't say, and to whom. In every showing of a home, I tune in intently to what’s said … and not said.
When representing a seller, I try to gauge the content and veracity of the buyer’s and agent’s remarks, often altering my own presentation on the fly based on what I hear. Are they disappointed with the layout? Do they prefer different finishes? Are they over the moon in love with the place? With a keen ear, I can respond to their concerns and keep them focused. What’s said out loud will also greatly affect how we approach the negotiations.
When I tour a home with my own buyers, I carefully instruct them as to what to say - and not to say - in front of the listing agent. Some buyers are tempted to trash a home they really like because they don’t want to give any indication at all as to the extent of their interest. But this approach may backfire if they ultimately submit an offer - because the seller may not take them seriously. By the same token, if you absolutely love a home, don’t say “I absolutely have to have this place at any price” in front of the listing agent; you’ll take away my negotiating power when we put in an offer.
My experienced team and I are savvy enough to help direct you as to what to say, what not to say, when to say it - and how.
And, for my sanity, please just listen to a good playlist or podcast - and keep you own mouth shut - if you happen to be working out near me.

Mexican Independence Day Parade
|
The Little Village Mexican Independence Day Parade returns to its namesake neighborhood this September, traversing a stretch of 26th Street ahead of Mexican Independence day on September 16. The theme of this year's procession—which includes mariachi bands, colorful floats and folkloric dancing—is “Celebrando Nuestras Tradiciones,” focusing on the rich tapestry of Mexican traditions and cultural celebrations. The parade runs between Albany and Kostner on 26th Street.
