Every Thanksgiving since circle time in Mrs. Nudelman's Junior Kindergarten class, I’ve come to reflect on what I’m most thankful for.
And this is what I’m thankful for this year: Google translate, the color blue, Google maps, servers who don’t ask if I’ve dined with them before, servers who are ok with me not knowing their name, conditioner, our garage, the hand immersion blender for soups, deep dish pizza with a butter crust, my fabulous niece Melanie, good cell service, the fish bone I accidentally swallowed last week for not causing too much discomfort, plentiful hot water, George Michael, miles which have not yet expired, coffee, portable chargers, the sun, my low resting heart rate, my favorite pillow but not the others, and grapefruit juice.
Also blue cheese olives, my left Airpod for finally charging, my right Airpod too, those green floss stick things, our deep fryer, auto-correct except when it's incorrect, and seaweed salad.
Oh, and I’m also really thankful the vast majority those in my amazing orbit of friends, family and clients, an unbelievable bunch of fighters, believers, givers, and thinkers who are deeply committed to preserving freedom, truth, democracy, human rights, decency, and the rule of law. I’m most thankful for them, especially this year.

Magnificent Mile Lights Festival
|
This Saturday the Magnificent Mile rings in the holiday season with its lights festival and annual parade. Beginning at 5:30pm, you'll be able to watch lights in more than 200 trees along Michigan Avenue sparkle as a procession of floats, giant helium balloons, marching bands and celebrities pass by. As usual, Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse will act as the Grand Marshals. Show up early (beginning at 11am) to check out activities along Michigan Avenue and get a picture with Santa.

Ice Skating at Maggie Daley Park
|
Situated in the heart of downtown Chicago with the city's sweeping skyline as a backdrop, the Skating Ribbon at Maggie Daley Park is a winter attraction unlike any other. Skaters can lace up and wind around a winding ice-covered path that's twice the length of a lap around a traditional rink. Reservations for the popular ice rink should be made in advance, as they tend to fill up quickly.
Admission to the Skating Ribbon is free Monday through Thursday and for 11am sessions Friday through Sunday (and $5 for other time slots Friday through Sunday, as well as holidays) if you bring your own skates. No skates? Entry is $17–$23 if you need to rent a pair. The Ribbon stays open through March (weather permitting) and even offers hours on Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year's Eve and New Year's Day.
