I feel so fortunate that my life is filled with so many gifted and talented family and friends, people who seem to accomplish the impossible: members of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, incredible leaders of civic and humanitarian organizations, political visionaries, academics, various artists and actors, opera singers. I am in awe of their talents, vision, and perseverance to seemingly accomplish the impossible.
I have felt out of their ranks, totally insufficient, and completely worthless when measured against their accomplishments...until now. Because this week, I accomplished the impossible: I sold a home on the el.
Out of all the City’s landmarks, the el is truly one of my most favorites. Looping the city from above, the el gives you the most amazing vantage to check out Chicago’s architecture, people, and sights. It’s the best place to inhale the city’s vibe.
But it’s not the best place to live next to. Even if the train’s noise “doesn’t bother” you, it bothers me - because it will be 1,000,000 times harder to sell the house; it will take 5,000,000 longer days; and it will sell for 10,000,000 times less. That’s why I will never let you buy on the el - the discount that should be associated with this trade-off in a purchase is never enough.
But I was able to sell my client’s home on the el, and now I feel honored to join the hallowed ranks of the luminaries of those who accomplish the impossible. Impressive, eh?

Enjoy Fall in Chicago and the Midwest
|
As noted in Thrillist, while air travel has clearly returned to its pre-pandemic form (with just a touch more rage), it’s clear that the Great American Road Trip isn’t going out of style anytime soon. Luckily, you don’t have to venture too far to check out some amazing fall destinations near Chicago, from laid-back whiskey tastings along the Michigan coast, to raucous Big 10 college football stadiums, to apple picking in Wisconsin and Indiana. Looking to stay instate? No problem. Oh, and did someone say fall foliage? Naturally.
