While traveling a few weeks ago, we crossed paths with an interesting West Virginia couple: he is an accomplished tattoo artist with a thriving business; and she is a nurse, with an equally successful business in - you’re not going to believe this - tattoo removal. I love a couple that provides one-stop shopping.
As someone who never got a tattoo (it hurts!), I have a difficult time understanding their allure. I’ve always felt that if I wanted to make a change in the way I look, a new shirt is so much easier. And you even can get an array of shirts for different looks!
Same goes for your home. If you are settled into your home for the long-haul - or if you’re not concerned about resale, feel free to make permanent substantive changes which are uniquely suited to your own tastes or needs. Install lilac cabinetry, convert your living room into a party sauna, or add a turret to your mid-century ranch. Sort of like a tattoo, eh?
But, if you are even contemplating resale, you may want to exercise some restraint and turn to an old stand-by when you want to add your own personal touch to your home: paint. The beautiful thing about paint is that you can always paint over whatever mess you’ve created when it comes time to sell.

This year's highlights include a centerpiece screening of Rian Johnson's Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery—during which the fest will welcome Kathryn Hahn to receive a career achievement award—and Noah Baumbach's adaptation of the 1985 novel White Noise, among dozens of other exciting picks.
