Well…it’s the week we’ve all been waiting for: my birthday week (as if I have to remind you!). During these often trying times, I think it’s really really nice for us to have something positive, spiritual, and outrageously energizing to unify us.
As much as I always appreciate the calls, texts, robo emails, flowers, and Facebook shoutouts (🎈🎁🎊🎉🪅🏆🥇🥂🍸🍾), I really do welcome generous gifts more. And without the convenience of a registry, this often proves difficult. That’s why I’m here to help!
In the past, you’ve showered me with so much (which I’ve either really enjoyed or returned): electronics; crystal, watches (both Rolex and Cartier but not Swatches); original paintings by famous artists (great investments!); turbo vehicles; Macbooks; new Wolf kitchen appliances…the list goes on and on.
But, as I advance in age in a year that is more reflective and somber, I think it’s more appropriate to focus on experiential gifts - events which mean so much more than “things” - as nice as they are (well, the ones I kept).
To that (most noble) end, may I propose the following: a world-wide luxury cruise (I so love travel!); a dinner and private concert with Elton John; a quick - but nonetheless memorable - weekend jaunt to Paris; a tour of the Titanic on the Titan (haha, not!); cooking lessons with Grant Achatz followed by weekly dinners at Alinea; a disco party for 1000 on Venice’s main piazza; a sunset champagne balloon ride over the Sahara; or possibly a 12-hour flight to the stratosphere.
Whatever you decide, please know in advance how much I appreciate your thinking of me on this special day - and going the extra mile to show it! I’m in awe of your generosity!
Have a great weekend!
Best,
Brad
P.S. The above picture was taken Wednesday night when my team took me out for a birthday dinner - before they found out about the aforementioned experiences I'd prefer.
