With an absolutely joyous weather forecast for this weekend, the Chicago Marathon on Sunday promises to be one of the best. And I’ve been thinking it could be a fun thing to do.
I show a lot of houses where the sellers display their medals on the wall, and it’s a totally cool look. Why not start my own collection this weekend?
The problem is that with fewer than 48 hours, I have to: pick out a slick running outfit (lined, duh) at Lululemon and stick my name on it so everyone can cheer for me; stock up on the energy sports bars which contain the most chocolate and peanut butter; get a number so everyone can track me on the marathon app (download it, people!); distribute branded “Go Brad Go” and “Yay Brad” poster boards to everyone along the route (and everywhere, really); enlist a (hunky) cheerleading squad to root me on at the half-way point; and carbo load.
Since I’ll be observing and fasting for Yom Kippur tonight through Saturday evening, I admit that I do find myself a bit pressed here. For efficiency's sake, I’m thinking it's wise to combine break-the-fast with the carbo load thing. Bagels have carbs, no? And kugel too!!
And I’m sure I could sneak out of the house on Saturday night to run around the block for some training - as long as I keep hydrated, of course. And then return in time for some date nut cake for dessert (more carbs). All doable!
Even though I appreciate your faith in my super-human (plus) ability to pull this off, there remains a slight chance that I won’t wake up in time to run - especially because atoning at my level is draining.
So, please consider supporting my incredible niece Gabrielle who is running in memory of my beautiful mother, Jacqueline Lippitz, and raising money for the American Brain Tumor Association: https://give.abta.org/fundraiser/5134086.

Bank of America Chicago Marathon!

Every October, more than 50,000 runners hit the streets of Chicago and take a 26.2 mile tour of the city by foot for the Chicago Marathon. While it's too late to enter the race (unless you're Brad Lippitz and don't need to complete weeks of grueling training), you can join tens of thousands of spectators on the city's streets to cheer on participants as they make their way through the course. The start and finish line in Grant Park isn't open to the public, but you can head to neighborhoods like Pilsen, Chinatown, East Lakeview and Lincoln Park to join crowds of onlookers toting handmade signs, blaring music and encouraging all of the runners as they whiz by, or meet your runner at the reunite area of Grant Park starting at 9:30am.

Returning to a two-acre plot of land just west of Goose Island, Jack's Pumpkin Pop-Up saves you a trip to the suburbs by bringing a huge corn maze, more than 10,000 pumpkins, axe throwing, carnival games, food trucks, twinkling orange light displays and more fall fun to the city. A general admission ticket nets you access to the pop-up, but you can also opt for add-ons that let you take home a pumpkin, grab a drink at one of bars or go axe throwing.
