City or suburbs? A conundrum often faced by many of my clients, some of whom are not on the same page as their partner.
Which brings me to a classic piece of Lippitz lore. At some point, it became clear to my parents that we would outgrow our 2-bedroom apartment on Aldine. A lifelong city resident, my father had no interest in venturing to the suburbs. But my mother had something else in mind. Her Aunt Bev (haven’t we all had an Aunt Bev in our lives?) lived in Glencoe, and my mother wanted nothing more than for us to move there as well. Knowing full well they would never have four children, my father promised my mother we would only move to Glencoe if - and only if- they had four kids.
Fast forward to the delivery table where my mother was giving birth to their third child, my brother Jon. Three minutes after Jon was born, my mother’s OB shocked everyone when he announced that there was another baby about to be born. Without an ultrasound, they had never detected my brother Stephen - Jon’s identical twin - who was lurking around in there too.
Although I’m sure that my mother was overjoyed with giving birth to yet another living creature, there is no doubt that Stephen’s primary purpose was her ticket to Glencoe.
While I don’t recommend these tactics to sway your partner, my team and I will help you come to a sensible decision for you and your family…and be by your side every step of the way. But not in the delivery room.
