With so many twists and turns in every deal, there’s always a chance it can fall apart - over inspection issues, financing roadblocks, incompetent appraisals, petty things, timing, uncontrollable emotions, overly lawyered riders…really anything.
But after doing literally thousands of deals, I’m a master at keeping it together. I know where to give, where to stay firm, how to build bridges, how to reach compromises, how to speak to the other side. Although I’m not always successful, most of the time I can keep it together.
After a joyous Fourth of July holiday filled with beach time, Cubs, BBQ, sun, fireworks - literally everything American but apple pie (missed opportunity), I couldn’t help but wonder what we’ll be doing next Fourth of July - and whether there will be a democracy to celebrate.
As your master of keeping it together, I wish I had the power to do so in this critical deal. Of all things, it seems ludicrous that we are at the point of hoping American democracy survives. But here we are.
I hope your Fourth of July was as fun and meaningful as mine - and I really hope next year’s Fourth of July is too. I can’t believe I’m saying this, but: let’s keep democracy together. It’s really way better than the alternative.

NASCAR Chicago Street Race
|
NASCAR returns to Chicago for another weekend of street racing, sending cars going over 100 miles per hour down Lake Shore Drive, Michigan Avenue, Columbus Drive and other downtown thoroughfares. You can purchase tickets to watch all the action from reserved seats and designated viewing areas, and also enjoy concerts by The Chainsmokers, The Black Keys, Keith Urban and Lauren Alaina.
|
If you can withstand the roar of O'Hare traffic and incoming planes seeming about to land on your head, you'll find some of the best deals in greater Chicagoland at Wolff's Flea Market outside Allstate Arena. Pick up odd trinkets or bulk candy and potato chips, plus clothing, housewares, furniture, jewelry and collectibles. Boasting over 700 sellers, this flea market is a favorite of vintage buyers themselves, so you know there are some great finds to be had at the fraction of city prices. Bring your best bargaining skills.
