Like many of you, I’ve been hearing a lot lately about the merits of Artificial Intelligence (AI) - how it’s going to revolutionize how we live, what and how we transact, and how it's going to essentially sneak in and usurp what we humans have been doing until now.
As a college student who had to wait hours in line with a stack of punch cards to run a single multiple regression analysis for my statistics class, I am a big fan of efficiency; things can get done so much quicker and better now. And there’s something to be said for convenience and expediency (except when Amazon took over TWO HOURS to deliver my new sports socks).
But if AI thinks it can out-best the services I perform as a trusted real estate advisor, AI better think again. AI can’t help you weigh whether you should give up a 2-car garage in favor of a home just steps from your daughter’s pre-school. AI can’t tell you how to evaluate the price differential between unit #2303 with a fancy 2003 DeGiulio kitchen and unit #2703 with a 2022 Home Depot kitchen with waterfall countertops.
AI can’t help you envision hosting a family Thanksgiving dinner, creating a roof garden for summer BBQ’s, or redecorating a former paneled office as a nursery for your (hopefully) beautiful baby. And, by the way, do you really need another bar in the lower level?
AI can’t negotiate the nuances of a contract, decide whether to make a big deal out of a few outlets which lack GFCI protectors, or strategize how to effectively stage your home to maximize its impact with minimal cost.
AI can’t hold your hand through the emotional roller coaster that’s inherent in buying and selling your home or listen to the backstory which is leading you to this decision. And, AI can’t love you like me and my team.
So, come at us, AI. With over 30 years of navigating the subtle nuances of the real estate markets and understanding the qualitative lifestyle choices of my clients, I’ll beat you every time. Hands down.

More than 100 emerging artists - including US photographer Tony Menias, whose photograph "Family Meal" is shown above - will be selling their work at Saatchi Art's touring art fair, The Other Art Fair, which takes place this year at Artifact Events. As reported in Time Out Chicago, prices for art start at around $100, making this the perfect opportunity for burgeoning collectors to start their very own gallery wall without spending an arm and a leg. Want something to snack on in between browsing sessions? Snag barbecue from Soul & Smoke or a sweet treat from Fat Milk.

Sasha Velour's The Big Reveal
|
Sasha Velour, the beloved a gender-fluid drag queen featured on Season 9 of RuPaul’s Drag Race in 2017, will be in Chicago this weekend only for her show, The Big Reveal. Sasha will present an immersive evening of drag, storytelling, live art, iconic new performances from Velour herself, an in-person conversation with a special guest star, an audience Q&A, and book signings. “I can’t believe I wrote a book without a ghostwriter! Who do I think I am?! A drag queen with things to say, apparently… That’s why I wanted to translate this book to the stage and open it up for conversation with you! Let’s celebrate the big reveals, the artistry, and the human stories that brings us together!” - SV
