At times, this real estate business can be as cut-throat as any. Agents compete in bidding wars, listings, brokerages, and promotion. But absolutely nothing could prepare me for the shock of what I witnessed on social media this week.
It happened on a delightful Spring day, sunny in the 70’s with bikers biking, joggers jogging, walkers walking, and kids kidding. Boats in the lake, birds chirping, trees blooming, the scent of lilacs filling the air. Everyone smiling with not a worry in the world...
And then I happened to glance at my Instagram feed and saw the unimaginable: a video of another agent showing a house in - brace yourself - a Cubs hat. At first I couldn’t believe what I saw, but I scrolled back up to watch the post a few times. After a careful review replay, I made the call and confirmed the hat. Tough stuff.
After getting over the hurt, the anger, the violation of it all, I decided to be proactive in this very forum with the following message to fellow agents: Don’t steal my shtick. Although a lot of Cubs fans wear Cubs hats, I’m THE real estate agent with the Cubs hat. I won’t wear a mini skirt, high heels, lashes, or a cheap tacky tie and matching pocket square from Target.
But the Cubs hat belongs to me.
