I know it’s not easy for any of us, but I think it’s about time that we all fess up that we’ve stopped listening to the “Yentl” soundtrack when we work out at the gym - and that we’ve moved on to “Happy Feet.” The shift has probably taken some of us longer than others, but I’m glad that we’re probably all on the same page now.
In addition to the over-the-top awesome “Happy Feet” soundtrack (which, of course, we all enjoy), the music evokes the film’s messages which warm my sappy heart - especially in these crazy times. Among the lessons is the obvious: don’t judge a book by its cover; you have to look inside in order to gauge one’s true essence.
Which brings us, of course, to our real estate issue of the week. You guessed it: just how important is curb appeal when deciding on a home? Do you nix an otherwise fantastic home just because the curb appeal doesn’t appeal to you, because it may be a bit different on the outside? Or, do you buy a mediocre place just because it has terrific curb appeal?
Although I can’t say these questions have been circulating for millennia, the conundrum plays out more often than you’d think in my (really cool) blue car during buyer tours on the streets of Chicago. Resale issues aside, I strongly believe that what happens on the inside outweighs the outside appearance. By a lot. The function, design and suitability of the home’s interior to your lifestyle should be foremost, even though its exterior look may not be exactly what you had in mind - or even out of the box. However, if your feel-good barometer skyrockets off the charts when you walk up to your house, then that should be a factor too.
Together we can balance your priorities-and come out tap dancing like Mumbo when you settle on the perfect place.

Joshua premiered this show for the first-time last year at The Rhapsody Theater. He returns to Chicago with a new version of the show filled with new illusions and ideas.
“Look Closer” produced by Rhapsody Theater, is the worldwide debut of a new show by Joshua Jay, one of magic’s most dynamic performers. This show follows the acclaimed “Six Impossible Things,” which debuted off-Broadway in New York City and ran for more than four extensions and two years. In this new show of magic and sleight-of-hand, Joshua turns the concept of misdirection on its head. In most magic shows the magician diverts your attention. In “Look Closer” you’re invited to look very, very closely, as the shapes of the tricks change the more you focus on them.
