You get to know a lot about people when you go to a Cubs game with them.
You will know whether they like Baseball. You will know if they like the new rules. You will know if they are Cubs fans - and, if so, for how long (were they Billy Williams fans like myself, for example?). You will know if they prefer Watermelon Nutrl over a Bud Light. You know if they are settling by ordering a Chardonnay.
You know if they appreciate good seats (perhaps by treating for a drink - and a sandwich - or 2 or 3). You will know if they understand the meaning of the Village People’s “YMCA”. And you will know the most intimate of secrets of all: what toppings they prefer on their hot dog (and YOU will find out - spoiler alert - that I like A LOT of ketchup on mine)(there, I said it)(and, thankfully, there’s no comment section below).
But the one thing that I really like to find out about someone at a Cubs game is what their walk-up song would be.
We all know that Patrick Wisdom’s is “Body” by Loud Luxury (well candidly, I had to google it); that Suzuki’s is “Thunder” by Imagine Dragons (again, a simple google search sufficed); that Happ’s is “Matches” by Cash Cash and ROZES (um, this was a combined Shazam and Google search). And, surely, the Brad Lippitz walk-up song award goes to Kyle Hendricks who at least had the courage to pick a song I’ve heard of: “Superstition" by Stevie Wonder (NO GOOGLE OR SHAZAM SEARCH NECESSARY).
The beauty of a walk-up song is its motivational intent: to stir passion, love, and power to the player when they’re up at bat. So they literally knock it out of the park. By now, I’m sure you’re probably wondering what my walk-up song would be - the song that would make me knock it out of the park.
No, not Dione Warwick’s “Walk on By.” No, not Dione Warwick’s “I Say a Little Prayer.” And, no, not Dione Warwick’s “I’ll Never Fall in Love Again,” although all of these are reasonable contenders which would fall within the margin of error.
My walk-up song is none other than….drum roll… George Michael’s “Freedom.”
So in these crazy times, if you’re down, if you’re confused, if you don’t know if you want a single family house or a condo, if you're unsure if your kitchen should have an island or a peninsula, if you don’t know whether to buy or sell, if you don’t know whether to pay cash or finance, if you don’t know what long-term upgrades to make with an eye towards selling, and if you’re not sure whether a power Toto toilet is worth the premium (IT IS)...
Then my recommendation is: first, play George Michael’s “Freedom” about 17 times. Second, have a glass of wine. And, third, reach out to me and my team to help figure it all out.
We’re here to help you knock it out of the park.
