Last year one of our team members announced to the group that she was going to a popup sale for Lanvin, a fancy ultra-expensive ultra-exclusive ultra-ultra clothing line out of Paris. Now, let me be upfront about this: I do own a Lanvin sports jacket and maybe a shirt or two. But it’s easy to get wrapped up in a sale - and I’m not exempt from such temptations, as much as we all think I should be. So a few of us raced to the sale.
Well, we got swept up in the fervor in the madhouse crowd at the sale, and I bought 7 pairs of shows at 80% off (still $$$$$$) for Yoni and me. There is no doubt that these shoes look ultra-cool - really thick soles, some high boots, stretchy things, and thick laces like the ones you learn how to tie a shoe with in nursery school.
But there is a little problem: except for one pair, they are impossible to wear. Too high, too tight, and simply ridiculous-looking outside of the popup store. At least, on me and Yoni. I often find myself tipping over when I try to wear them.
So they remain on the shelf.
Which brings us to our real estate lesson of the week. Even though we’re all tempted by fancy finishes and all the bells and whistles we find in many real estate offerings, you have to remember that you still have to live in it. Like some shoes, there are some homes which are just too precious, too uncomfortable, too impractical to enjoy.
Do you really need a wet bar on each floor of your house? If everyone hangs out in the kitchen, why is 3/4 of your first floor occupied by rooms which will never have a single person in them - except when they walk through them? Will you really use all 7 bedrooms? If you need a shvitz, do you really need 3 steam showers?
Figure out where you read, where you watch, where you eat, and where you just hang out. And figure out what you need to do all of that.
Depending on YOUR day-to-day priorities, we'll find a home that truly suits the way you live 99% of the time.
I'll even throw in a pair of Lanvin shoes into the deal when we do!

Local artists will play throughout the neighborhood (peep the lineup here) and the locations and showtimes will be revealed via email the day before the event. Proceeds will go toward supporting the musical acts, the festival and the Lakeview Roscoe Village Chamber of Commerce.
