A few nights ago, I had dinner (at Lure Fish House, a great spot except for the cheap wooden chopsticks) with a client who has become a dear friend. In addition to catching up with the highs and lows of our pandemic and post-pandemic lives, she also reminded me of the fact that I have represented her and her husband in 5 real estate transactions in as many years: buying and selling an in-town for themselves; buying and selling a condo for their son; and buying a fabulous permanent residence for themselves. Although the experiences of our real estate ride together is emblematic of the lessons I have shared - and intend to share - with all of you, one of the first stands out...and only because we still laugh about it.
As long-time suburban dwellers, they enlisted me to help find them the perfect city pad - with kick-ass views, easy access to restaurants and nightlife, and the opportunity to escape the ladies of Hadassah in the suburbs.
With a long tour prepared, I forewarned them that, given the type of place they were looking for, all the various listing agents we would meet at the properties would focus on one thing: how great their listing is to view the Air & Water Show.
And sure enough, after pointing out some upgrades, each and every one of the agents proceeded to highlight the one-of-a-kind vantage points their listing had for viewing the Air & Water Show. Seriously.
Now I am happy to confide here (perhaps for the second time) that I’m not an Air & Water Show kind of guy; I’d rather flee to Dubuque (or Dubai) for the weekend. But even if we concede that most people like the Air & Water Show, having a good view of it for the two days in 365 in a year should not factor into a decision to buy a condo. It just shouldn’t. Buy a place for how you live for the other 363 days, and you will be a lot happier.
And if you ask me, you’ll be even happier than that if you flee the city for the Air & Water Show.

Chicago's Pride Parade and Pride Festival are on hold until October, but more than a dozen performers will still take to Grant Park this June for the two-day Pride in the Park festival, a musical celebration of Pride Month and the city's LGBTQ+ community. Chaka Khan, Tiësto and Gryffin will headline, with appearances from Betty Who, Alyssa Edwards and Tracy Young; you can also catch drag performances from performers like RuPaul's Drag Race stars Denali Foxx, The Vixen and Naysha Lopez. A portion of the proceeds from the event will benefit Center on Halsted.

Chicago's multicultural Broken Arrow Horseback Riding Club hosts its annual Speed and Action Rodeo Horse Show, taking place in the horse arena behind the South Shore Cultural Center. Rather than the bull riding and roping that's typically associated with a rodeo, this event is meant to showcase the agility of horses through activities like flag racing and a relay race. If you have a horse and want to show off your skills, you'll need to register before 1pm—everyone else can show up to take in the show, beginning at 2pm.
