Wow, this city is great. If you’re in Chicago right now, you’re experiencing a glorious summer: beautiful sunny skies, warm yet tolerable climate, a lakefront alive with swimmers, boaters, joggers, cyclists, volleyball players, gawkers, jump ropers, duck-feeders, picnickers, and sunbathers. The music is playing, the people are dancing and eating, the Cubs are winning (sometimes), and everyone seems to be having a jolly ol' time.
But if you listen to the news, this is how it is everywhere else right now: it sucks. Oppressive heat waves, floods, fires, hurricanes, mud slides. Dare I add boil, vermin, hail, locusts and darkness? I shall: boil, vermin, hail, locusts and darkness. Whether you like it or not, global climate change is having an impact - and a lot sooner than we thought.
Even though the real estate markets in coastal cities and in the South and West surged in the last few years (while we’ve sat back and drooled at their fortunes), mark my words: Chicago is the future. Largely environmentally protected from such extremes - and with a wonderful freshwater lake with abundant water, Chicago stands out as the long-term safest bet for, well, living.
Add to that a rich arts scene, a plethora of unbelievable restaurants and clubs, and cultural events at every turn - and Chicago will be the ideal refuge for those confronting unspeakable natural insecurity and looking for an alternative. And for insurable property.
Enjoy this city, invest in it, and have a great weekend!

Pitchfork returns to Union Park during its usual weekend in July—and as ever, the lineups are packed with some of the most of-the-moment indie, hip-hop and electronic acts. Catch headlining sets from indie darling Bon Iver, folk rockers Big Thief and English triplet The Smile, a side project of Radiohead members Thom Yorke and Jonny Greenwood. Plan on arriving early, discovering some new music and weaving your way through the crowds to find a spot in the shade.
