In this challenging world in which we now find ourselves, we are forced to confront our own values, our own system of beliefs, and our moral compasses. The beginning of the Jewish New Year, a sacred moment for many of us (for others, a great time to binge watch every season of “Marcus Welby M.D.”), is a time to reflect on the progress of our own lives and how we interact with our communities, our environment and our world. In addition to looking ahead, we look behind and we remember.
In real estate, I am witnessing the erosion of a very fundamental cardinal rule we all grew up with - a rule which is slowly and blatantly violated IN THE OPEN by younger generations...and by even some who have reached a certain level of maturity. This rule is violated by so many of my clients without regard to history, in contradiction to the norms of generations which preceded them, and as a slap to those who risked everything to give them better lives.
The rule is obvious: Never put the TV in the living room.
Of course, whether you decide to hang your TV in your living room is your choice - and I believe in choice: it’s your TV, your living room, your home. And, far be it for me to interfere in this very personal decision.
And, truth be told, modern flat screens are much more inconspicuous than the old Zenith monoliths.
And, frankly, it’s consistent with another Brad rule: you should spend the most time in the nicest room of your home. If that means hanging a TV in the living room, then so be it.
So I’ve convinced myself of this for the moment. And I may have to atone for it in a week.
Best,
Brad

Grab your bike and reconnect with friends and family on a car-free Jean Baptiste Point DuSable Lake Shore Drive. Whether you’re new to biking, a seasoned veteran, or biking with kids, Bike the Drive is an event to remember (and this year is the 20th Annual!) With sweeping views of the lake and skyline, you’ll enjoy fresh air and the wind on your face! Ride as little or as much of the 30-mile course as you’d like and then enjoy a post-ride festival in Grant Park. No bike? No problem! Rentals are available. Don’t miss this once-a-year event when bicycles reign over DuSable Lake Shore Drive. And if you keep your eyes peeled, you might even see some Brad Lippitz Group team members, offspring and friends!

Quite possibly the best way to see Chicago and get up close and personal with the city's raison d'être, kayaking on the Chicago River is fun for the whole family. After a few quick lessons covering how to balance and steer your kayak, you'll be able to push off from this dock near the north end of Goose Island and start exploring. Kayak Chicago allows you to stay on the water as long as you like—by the hour or you can pay a flat fee to rent a kayak for an entire day. Tours are also available and are on the lengthier side (about three hours), with guided excursions that highlight Chicago architecture or simply allow you to navigate the river at night.
