Even though we were largely confined to our homes, the pandemic brought some new personalities into mine: Cody, Ali Love, Alex Touissant, Denis Morton and Hannah Frankson, all Peloton instructors who somehow think they know you. My relationships with each of these instructors certainly has had its ups and downs (literally) but riding the bike at home became a daily ritual which saved my sanity and limited my weight gain.
Same goes for many of my clients who religiously prayed on their own Pelotons with their own preferred instructors. But the emergence of the Peloton’s popularity has also created a new dynamic in real estate, somewhat akin to the Costco closet: where to put the bike, how to market a house with the bike, and whether to highlight it or downplay it. In addition to the amount of reverence you have for your bike, the space of your home is paramount. Does the Peloton deserve its own room? Its own corner? Its own wing?
I have a client who is now renovating a 3000 square foot apartment for himself (which I found for him off-market, of course), and he decided that his Peloton was unworthy of its own room. He showed me his plans, and I pointed out that a designated guest room for guests who stay a few nights a year should not take priority over his bike. In contrast, I will be bringing a three-bedroom condo on the market for a family with 2 kids who have managed to squeeze their bike in a closet…and, by golly, it works.
Of course, there’s no one size fits all solution here. But let’s recognize the ways that the pandemic has changed our lives. I will work to help you enhance the experience of your daily regimen while making sure that your home has broad appeal in the marketplace. And that includes where you put the damn bike.
